Piero Gros

Piero Gros, born on October 30, 1954, in Sauze d'Oulx, is a legend of Italian alpine skiing. At just 18 years old, he became the youngest winner of a World Cup race, paving the way for an extraordinary career. In 1973/74, he won the overall World Cup and the giant slalom title, establishing himself as one of the most complete athletes of his era. He won Olympic gold in slalom at Innsbruck 1976 and world silver in 1978, and collected 12 World Cup victories and numerous national titles. After retiring in 1982, he continued to represent his territory as mayor of Sauze d'Oulx from 1985 to 1990 and lent his expert voice as a commentator for RAI (Italian National Broadcasting Company) and Swiss Italian television. Today he is honorary president of Sci Club Sauze d'Oulx, a living witness to a sporting legacy that continues to inspire new generations.
